Dear Ones:

This is really a shout-out to my “adopted” grandkids and their wonderful parents, Jamie and David.  Jacey Davide and her brother Jake came with their parents yesterday from College Station.  Now, if you’re thinking, “OMG, there’s two of them…there are two of them.  Jacey Davide is my daughter, Davide’s, goddaughter and she carries Davide’s name, which always makes me happy as Davide carries my father v’sholom’s name, David.  And so I am always happy when these four special folks arrive at the Ranch @ Hashem’s House.  They use to drive all the way down from Midland…now it’s a “quick” three hours from College Station, home of Texas A&M, where Davide and Jamie met in college.

So last night we got to open the sofa bed in the family room and Jake got to witness the “biggest sofa bed he had ever seen”…it’s really just a queen but it does look bigger…and Aunt Davide got to whip up her now famous Texas-sized waffles for breakfast this morning, using my waffle iron which produces waffles in the shape of Texas.  I bought it right after I moved here and Texas-sized waffles that look like the state of Texas are a “thing” here at the Ranch for breakfast.  Actually, I can remember one time when we ate them for supper!  And Davide sometimes makes them with white whole-wheat flour so they’re good for you to boot!

Last night, after they came home from Jacey’s state level tennis match at the Westlake High School tennis courts, we enjoyed a late Saturday night supper including something Jamie whips up called M-U-D!  Do not knock it until you’ve tasted it.  It is sinfully rich, sinfully creamy and sinfully delicious! Davide’s working on a new idea to use it for filling for her great cakes.

Now, why do I mention all this?  First I love these kids…second I want to shout out GOOD LUCK to Jacey as she returns to the courts today to continue to win matches and grow…you all remember that name…JACEY DAVIDE…because some day you could be watching her play at the US OPEN!  And lastly I mention this event because it is part of the balance I was speaking about the other day.

As we start this Jewish New Year of 5771 we want to work on balance.  We all work hard at whatever we’re working at.  We need to take some, if not, equal time, to enjoy that good life we are working for.  We need to stop and rest and set awhile with friends, with family, with great food we’ve cooked ourselves.  We need to pull up to the dining room tables we own, all over the world, with loving folks around them and good food on them and then just do what families and friends need to do…just be…just be…not doing much of anything except breaking break together, after we’ve thanked Hashem for all our blessings, nourishing our bodies and our souls, teaching our young ones what life is all about, by example, our example.  That’s why dining room tables, kitchen tables, picnic tables and roadside tables were invented…isn’t it?

With many, many blessings and very great love for all of us,

Rebba Raine
