Dear Ones:

Yesterday I celebrated the Dalai Lama’s birthday by attending the Tibetan Singing Bowls Peace-In at the Texas State Capital Building. Ten Thousand Villages staged the event in the Auditorium Outdoor Rotunda. I sat in the second rung just above the main event after a darling security guard allowed me to bring in my schleppy cart with S. Michael’s folding UT chair. I was wearing my new Medi-Alert button, as I am now considered an official fall risk and the guard allowed me to pass even though I was setting off all kinds of alarms. I showed him my new AWAIC ID card. (If you are a clergy and don’t have one contact me and I will tell you how to get one. VERY HANDY).

I understand that we were going for a Guiness’ World Record as the largest group of Tibet Singing Bowls to be played simultaneously in one place at one time. I haven’t heard if we made that record but I can report that the effect of so many bowls being played at one time was heavenly. It was the singularly loveliest event I have been to in a while. I met people I knew and people I hadn’t met before and made lots of new friends. Someone from the store told me that I may have been the only Rabbi there. It was Shabbat. Perhaps the other Rabbis in Austin were at their shuls. It doesn’t matter. My presence there was noted and appreciated. And considering what’s been going on in the State Capital Building in Austin over the past couple of weeks, the building needing a cleansing, a clearing, a good shot of blessed rich karma in peace and compassion and kindness.

My Yoga teacher, Everett, was there as well. For those of you who don’t know Everett and who live in the Austin area join us Mondays, at noon, at Yoga, Yoga on S. Lamar for Chair Yoga. (Cost: $10) and at Dittmar Community Center over on Dittmar on Wednesday afternoon at 1 pm (turn right on Dittmar off of Manchaca if you are coming North or left off of 1st if you are coming North.) Again, its chair yoga and it is by love donation. Everett plays his bowls every class and the sound is so healing in so many ways.

I will get back to you with pictures of the event although you can check Austin’s Ten Thousand Villages website. I am sure they are posted there. I will also let you know if we made it into Guiness’.

With many blessings and very great love for all of us,

Rebba Raine
